Adobe has released Photoshop CC 2017 in the month of November, the latest update to the image-editing software. The Photoshop CC 2017 has added many improvements and features to it.
Many new features are targeted for print and web media which would be beneficial for designers.
- The latest version is now more connected to the Creative Cloud and the other application in the Adobe environment.
- New things have introduced which will help novice to achieve success quickly.
- Enhancements to features like Select and Mask, Face-Aware, Liquify and much more.
Major Updates in Photoshop 2017 are:
1. Start Workspace
It was introduced in Photoshop CC during November 2015 update. This screen will be displayed when Photoshop will be launched or whenever no documents are open. Photoshop CC 2017 makes significant changes to the Start Workspace.
- New updation will give access to recent files.
- It has removed Libraries and Presets tabs and replaced it with CC Files tab.
- Access to last 50 PSD files which has been synced to CC account.
- Includes PSD assets that are uploaded from the CC Market.
- Only PSD files are supported in CC Files tab.
2. Updation in File handling Features
Check the “Recent File List contains” option appearing in File handling under Preferences tab. Value in the particular field can be entered between 0 and 100.
3. New Document Window
One of the major changes in Adobe Photoshop CC 2017 is the redesigning of New Document dialog box.
- It will have the same functionality like the previous versions, but visual layout has been changed
- It also comes with free templates from Adobe Stock.
To revert and use the old feature “Use Legacy ‘File New’ Interface” option made available under General of Preferences Tab.
4. Blank Document Presets
Blank document templates are similar to previous versions. They create a blank document based on a pre-defined document size, resolution and color profile.
In Photoshop CC 2017 these blank document templates work the same, but the visual layout has been changed.
5. Photoshop Templates
Now Photoshop Templates are provided within the New Document dialog. Free Photoshop Templates are provided by Adobe Stock. They contain various brochures, fliers, motion graphics, video overlays and much more.
You can now choose a category and can see the list of templates available under it. Downloaded Templates are added to a CC Library called Stock Templates. It can be accessed through the Libraries panel from within Photoshop.
6. Search Feature
Search feature has been added in Adobe Photoshop CC 2017. Now users can search any functionality inside the Photoshop.

- Search can be performed using synonyms. For example, searching for “Retouch” will result in various retouching tool such as the Clone Stamp Tool, Healing Brush Tool, and Patch Tool.

7. SVG Color Fonts
The biggest improvement to Type is the addition of SVG Color Fonts to the list of font types. It support multiple colors and gradients in a single glyph. It will also contain Trajan Color Concept and EmojiOne font( for using Emojis).
8. New Liquify and masking option
New changes include:
- Option to adjust each eye of a portrait photo or drawing independently when using the Face-Aware Liquify feature.
- The Polygonal Lasso has been added to the Select and Mask Space to help create precise selections and masks. Also, view high-resolution or low-resolution previews during selection.
